I think that as Porsche owners we get a little spoiled. When you consider that the 928 is comparable in performance to a Lamborghini or Ferrari, how can you not see it as an incredible bargain? You can, for the price of 1 or 2 Ferrari services, a 928S4 that's capable of incredibly competitive performance. With a top speed of near 170 mph, I can't imagine anything this side of an Enzo that's going to lose you in a Porsche that was made over 15 years ago! Yet people will pay more for a routine service on some Ferraris than most people here would pay for a top-end rebuild!

I think you find XJS interior to be a tad old school. The steering wheel and dash layout are from another time...the seats and seating position, in my opinion, is poor. Jag leather/dye seems to hold up worse for wear. The rear disc brakes are inboard, so you drop the entire rear for major work, but it no different than dropping a 911 motor, once you do it a couple of times it is no big deal. They tend to rust and rust, no zinc coating for the British. Parts are very available in the US, you can get spare parts car cheap. The V12 motor runs forever with the "right care", the problem is some jag owners tend to be cheap and basic care is often neglected. The V12 motor produce tons-of-heat in a small area, good in winter bad in summer, but run a V12 over 300 miles at 80-90 mph and you may be converted...smooth, with passing speed at a touch of the pedal. There is more room under the hood to work than on a 928.

The wholesale prices of the XJS have continued to tumble due to the introduction of the XK8. Owning an XJ-C-V12, which was the placeholder from the XK-E to the XJS, I would rather have 928 over a XJS as you could modify the 928 in all the right places. There were some XJSs modified by Lister to be 928 fighters, but these are few and not effective.
