Default Unidentified wire

In my attempt to deal with the rats-nest of wiring left by the PO or his minions during their Sony stereo unit installation, I am left with a question.

There is a branch of the wiring harness that apparently provided power to the original head unit. This branch contains 3 wires: a 16g red wire that is battery + (constant 12v) and a 16g brown wire that is battery - (gnd).

There is also a small (20g??) red wire which is also battery+ (constant 12v). Can anyone identify this wire's original use??

Someone may leap up and smack me down here but I used this for the memory on the stereo.

Cheers

Agree with Todd928. On my '81, the small red wire is "constant on" for stereo pre-sets memory and stero clock

That sounds like a great use for a constant + source, but the large-guage-red that travels with it is also constant +. Why 2 if they both go to the radio???

Incidentally, after "cleaning things up" in there, I have lost the driver's side power window, but the roof and right side window still function. Is there something in the console area that might interrupt power to only the driver's side? (aside from the switch connector itself, which appears undisturbed)

Fix one thing, FU** up another!!

Thats what I thought but when I first wired up the stereo the radio kept losing the stations?

Swapped round the two red wires and everything was fine.

Don't understand it but it works

Cheers

there is a conector for those window switches in there Brian. On my 84 they came apart real easy on my 85 you have to fight them to get them apart. Look for a square 4 pin plug (if I rember right). It will be along the tunnle up near the firewall.
