Local shop recently had a Mercedes SUV in for a headlight replacement, rock or some debris cracked the lens. His wholesale cost on the assembly was $1,500 (dealer quoted the customer almost $2,500).

The insurance industry is taking notice too:

Even a Toyota Camry is $1,800 for a headlight assembly.

So all things considered, $400 each for the absolute best headlights for your 928 doesn't seem all that bad.

LED bulbs will produce a miserable beam pattern unless they are constructed so the light source mimics the position and characteristics of the original incandescent filament. Most on the market are crap. Here's an interesting link: https://jalopnik.com/heres-why-some-...lin-1842245288.

As a former "stupid" regulator, I direct your attention here to the rulemaking in progress to allow adaptive driving beams: https://www.federalregister.gov/docu...ated-equipment

I don't know the exact history of the lighting standard but suspect that for better or worse it was patterned on SAE standards as most of it was written a very long time ago.

Default Beamtech leds are Amazon choice

Beamtech LEDs have the best low beam patteran according you YouTube and Amazon reviews but high beams not so good but for $30-$39 they're way better than halogen.
