As can be seen, it fits fairly good without the Conti bezel. If I recall correctly, I did round off bottom corners and "shaved" off the lip on top of the face plate for a flush fit. The control **** on my unit came in black, didn't need to do any mods there. All in all, it looks great to me :-)
Thanks a million Jan...looks great T

Good job guys!
NUT, that looks to fit almost perfect without the bezel.
So let me get this straight, looks like you shaved off the curved edges of the Central Warning plate. Did you have to do mods to the Continental unit as well?
Sorry, I was a little unclear about that.

I think there’s a couple of the Conti models w a CD player. I’m old school....

Chuck, I don't recall shaving/filing off the curved edges of the Central Warning plate. I believe the curved edges are only on top of the CW module. However, if they were there, they were obviously removed. It is a tight fit but in this case, that is a good feature. The filing/shaving I mentioned in my original post was to the edges of the Conti unit face plate. As it comes, it has a lip around all 4 sides, you can see the bottom one in the picture. That's what the bezel would normally rest against. Obviously there isn't room for the bezel in the center console without cutting into it. So, to "shoe-horn" it in, I shaved off the lip from both sides, right flush with radio casing, and filed down the upper lip so it would just slide under the CW module, while still providing support for the CW module. The rounding off bottom corners referred to the face plate corners, to make it more or less match the radius of the corners in the center console. All in all, not a big deal. If I was able to do it, anybody can. Hope this makes it a bit clearer.

I see what Chuck's referring to. On Mokka (MY79) and Chucks MY79, the curved edges were on both top & bottom. On posts 1 & 13 it appears they are straight along the bottom of the CWP...looks like Porsche made a subtle change to cars built after a certain date...as they did with the notched trim surround not found on the early cars. Tony,
Correct. But it looks like Jan's 79 is filed flat. I'd like to put a Conti unit in my 79, but don't want to compromise any of the pieces. (I've saved every stock part on the car)
Getting a spare CW panel from Mark Anderson to trim up might be a wise move...

Looking at the clearance below the warning button, its also possible that the CEL panel has a flat bottom edge and is overlapped by the factory radio with its own rounded edges.

From the pic just above, it does look like the radio could be on top of the CEL panel due to what appears to be different shadows on each end (ie light is causing the radio edge to cast more shadow on the lest side). However someone would need to have a good look at an original car to be sure

I've used 2 separate Line Out Converters in my installation. This actually looks like a cleaner/simpler application. Didn't see it when I did my search.

Looks like a nice install, I don't want to be a downer but installing your subwoofer on a movable foam bed will take some of the power from it and spoil the sound. A large speaker like that needs a solid mounting because every movement of the coil will be lessened as it will move the entire enclosure. That's why your home subwoofer (if you have one) is a heavy solid item with a strong baffle because you want the speaker to convert movement to sound pressure and foam will mess that up.

Chuck, my stereo/speaker/amp installation is nothing to write home about. It is a mixed bag of mods done by previous owners with some changes/upgrades implemented over the years by me - hardly an example of clean, state-of-the-art installations done by a number of members of this forum. I've seen some nice amp installations in the spare tire well, couldn't go wrong with that choice.

Default how to connect subwoofer with continental radio

Hi I'm trying to do something similar in my '84, but don't get how to wire the speakers. The Conti has outputs for front and rear speakers but no subwoofer output, and if I use two of the speaker outputs for the subwoofer then there's only one speaker output left. How did you connect all four speakers and the subwoofer? Thanks!
