Question on motor mounts and heat shield
While doing the motor mounts and oil pan gasket, i decided to also install some used headers I purchased from 928 Int'l a while back. Albeit slow, everything has been going back together relatively well.
My first real snag is this: With the new headers installed, the heat shields that sit on the cross member would not fit between the headers and the motor mounts. Literally, there was not enough space to push the heatshield through. Also, even if there was some way of wedging it in, it would be physically smushed and touching both the headers and the motor mount housing.
My question is how critical is it to have the heat shield in? Thoughts? Anyone else experience this? I'd love to hear any comments or suggestions.
thanks!

If you're running a hydraulic mount, regardless of what brand, no heat shield = failed mounts in a hurry. Went through 2 sets of Genuine Porsche mounts on my GT with MSDS headers before it dawned on me. (Yes I'm a little slow sometimes. LOL) I wound up switching to a solid mount back then. Nowadays there are lots of aftermarket thermal barrier products that can be used in the heat shield's place. Good luck with it.

With Headers I think you have two options,..
Easy: wrap the mounts w/ heat reflective material like they sell at speed shops and then secure the wrap with stainless steel zip ties.
Not too difficult: make a metal heat deflector plate, attach to the top MM bolt and shield the mount from above downward, the shield can also be wrapped for extra protection.
(they are double nutted, one for the mount plate and a second on top of that for the sheild)
Like these that I have on the TwinScrew 86.5
