Default S4 seats

Another dumbass question: is the back part of the front seats on S4 cars made of leather or vinyl? Just doing some detailing - would want to mess anything up

Thank you!

Hello Shmurzik,

I believe the seats are either all vinyl, or all leather, so what ever is on the front will be on the back.

I'm fairly sure that the back panels of my leather seats are vinyl.

On mine the backs of the seats are vinyl and the seats are leather. I recently re-dyed the seats with leatherique and learned the hard way that vinyl does not absorb the dye like the leather does. Lots of wet sanding on the vinyl to blend the dye.

Quick test that works for me. It sounds gross but it always works for me.

Touch your tongue to the surface. Leather usually absorbs water and pulls moisture off your tongue. After trying this on your belt, wallet, etc, you can usually identify the feeling of leather on your tongue. Since Vinyl does not absorb water you can usually feel the difference immediately.

I have never seen a 928 from the factory with a leather & vinyl seat, doesn't mean there wasn't one.....but if its a factory seat that has never been recovered, it should be all leather.

Leather seats for the 928 were all leather including the back of the back rest . Other model Porshes sometimes only have leather on the seating surface . Also occasionally the leather from the back of the back rest is used to replace one of the front panels and vinyl is substituted for the back of the backrest . When in doubt look at the underside ...suede is leather woven fabric ..Vinyl

Nathan I will not go for any sarcasm on your remarks. I will just leave it alone.

Hey Nathan,

I would like to do that in a show room just to see the salesmans face.

I guess this would work on ladies pants as well?

It likely does on 'tanned' hide - 'raw' hide is an entirely different matter: not sure what technique works????
