Lightbulb '91 928 S4 Exclusive with XX8 Option - Interesting COA

Hey Folks,

I wanted to share my recently received COA for my '91 928 S4. Everything on it makes sense except for the indication of a 17 inch Boxster Design wheel..... Can anyone shed some light on this wheel design offering for the 928? In any case I am glad to see the car is authentic and very special! Definitely a Mizwa (Sole Japanese Porsche Importer) Special Edition in the same company as the '94 911 Turbo S Flachbau Japan Version with '89 style Vented Slant Nose!

The reference to 17" Boxster S Design wheels is likely an error. The Boxster did not exist until 1996...and if I recall correctly the Boxster S debuted in the late 90's. It's not the first time PCA has made errors on a COA. Best to check with them directly.

Time to ask Porsche to take another swing at the COA, minus the Boxster wheels. Your VIN is listed as having I400 pressure cast wheels, for '91 it should be D90 with RDK.

The GTS Rear Fenders were an exclusive option code in '91, you can see them on the car. PCA got that right on the COA!

Oh boy it tooks 2 months to get this COA?! I do not know if I can wait another 2 months!!!!!!! The D90 wheel is definitely the correct wheel. And Yes the GTS came out in '92 for ROW, but that is what makes this car special is that the flares existed prior as an exclusive department option. I think that the flares being so well received by the few that ordered it was the catalyst to make them standard for the final variant.

"Equip for Japan" should be RHD, unless the pic is mirror image.

COA is - suspect.

Is that an extended Rear Fog lamp near the exhaust outlets?

All 51 of the Japanese market 928s with the XX8 option were left hand drive cars. Overall for the 1991 Japanese market there were 305 LHD and 69 RHD cars.

It is a reflector.

Equipment for Japan does not necessarily mean LHD or RHD orientation. Rather the front flares / rear reflectors / Japanese signage / Headlight Orientation / Instrumentation ETC are equipment for Japan. Many Porsche Cars Old and New are LHD or RHD in Japan. It seems as if the consumer has the choice for the driving orientation! I have requested another COA as the only erroneous item is the wheel designation. Sighhhhh

It also looks (on close inspection) that in addition to the leather instrument housing, you have a leather dash, console, armrests, etc. and a color matched (leather covered?) housing for the armrest insert panel that houses the air vents/seat memory control pieces. Also, the COA says leather to sample: Silk Grey (not Linen) and Marine Blue combo. I'd sure love to see the sticker (in U.S. dollars) on that vehicle.......as well as additional pics.

It was considered "special" to have a LHD in Japan.

Right. So why call them "GTS" flares, as the GTS nomenclature didn't exist yet, right?

The car is beautiful --- Simply gorgeous color combination.

That COA is not so good... In 1991, the option code was: XX8 Wide Body!

If properly filled out, it would be two pages long... So many options not listed that it is ridiculous.

C-mon Porsche, it's sad when the customer knows more about their car than the factory.
