Default Alarm malfunction help

When I unlock my and open my doors after they have been locked for an 1/2 hour or more The horn starts to go off until I start the car. Sometimes even after starting the car it is takes a few seconds before it turns off. Any help would be much appreciated.

It would also help if you mentioned if the 'alarm' is an aftermarket add-on, or just the Porsche built-in alarm.
Your model year would also help.
That being said, here is an easy starting point, assuming the Porsche alarm, and you are using your key to unlock the driver's door.
There is a switch built into the key cylinder of the door lock. and a small wire harness connector is assessable just under the door trim that can be seen when you lower the window.
It seems that the alarm is arming when you lock the door, but not disarming when you unlock the door.
I would test these wires independently from the switch and see if problem can be isolated.

Also does it make a difference which door you unlock or if the rear hatch is first unlocked ??

Sorry I din't give more info. I posted this a long day and I wanted to post something before I forgot.
It's a 87 s4. Factory alarm. It did have after a aftermarket alarm when I got the car, but I removed it (or so I thought I got all of it). I'm locking and unlocking the car from the drivers door. It doesn't make any kind of noise when I lock the door. The door lock button on the dash did work a few times after I got the car back on the road after sitting for a long time, but it doesn't work any more. I'm not sure if the back hatch will set off the alarm, haven't tried that one. Today I'm trying to replace the plastic latch in the hatch and after that I will see if the hatch will set it off.

The factory alarm doesn't make any "chirp" noise when you arm or disarm it.

There are three switches to arm or disarm it. Each door lock and the hatch lock. The dash button has nothing to do with it.

It sounds like the driver's door lock may not be disarming the alarm. As suggested, try it with each door. See if it arms and disarms with all three (the hatch lock can arm the alarm by turning it to the left - it won't do anything to the hatch).

Take off the door card, and have a gander at the door lock alarm switch condition.

You know Randy, a little kindness goes along way to making this world a more enjoyable place- for all of us, yourself included.

To the OP, have you checked and cleaned your grounds? I’m just learning these cars myself but it seems that a lot of the electrical issues are tied to bad grounds. Simple stuff first. Just a thought.

You are all correct. The New Visitor thread was closed by Randy V when he was a Mod here, many days ago, as it was quite large. He should have included a post as to his personal finely honed and wickedly dry sense of humor. If he had included such a post it would still be lost because no one reads that thread and that is a shame for all the info it contains. So I'm trying to kill two birds at once here.

I understand he dispenses a fine martini from atop the spoiler of his shark at gatherings and with an appropriate interval before anyone gets behind the wheel of course.

I have a 84 and I just pulled off both door panels to replace the check straps. Underneath the panel both alarm wires were crushed by the front speakers and shorted together. Idon't care about the alarm so I'm not going to bother repairing it just thought this might help.
