Default Trouble with rear AC expansion valve

I'm in the middle of refurbishing my AC system on my 88 S4 with rear AC. I am replacing all the O-ring seals, both expansion valves, receiver drier. I am also rebuilding my compressor with a seal kit. The system seemed to work ok as long as there was refrigerant in the system but that would not stick around very long (3-months).

I ran into my first issue at the rear expansion valve. Notice the mounting plate on the left is bent. The issue is this plate seems to be part of he hose. Any ideas on how to un bend it or deal with the issue that it does not seem to be holding the top hose on correctly?

check the O ring it may be too big FAT,
or the line was never properly seated ,
try test fitting the line with no O ring first

If you can’t straighten the plate, get a washer with the same ID as the pressure line. Cut the washer in half and use one cut section as a shim between the still-bent plate and the line.

Default Unbent

I pressed out the bend using two pieces of barstock and a couple of bolts. It all went back together pretty well.

Faced with this late last year after a rear ac blow out I used a seriously large set of locking pliers to bend and hold the plate in place while I tightened the allen bolt.

In my defense, while I have a set of klipex they were not quite enough to do the job.
