Default Cruise control question

1984 928 S with auto trans. I have never used my cruise control that I can remember. Today while on the interstate I went to set the cruise. It worked but it was not functioning what I felt is properly. I would set it at 70 mph and the car would slow to about 65 mph then engage and bring the car back to 70, once at 70 it would wait till it got back down to 65 then engage again and bring it back to 70. After a couple of minutes of this I turned it off and just used the go pedal.

but anyway I would like to correct this. Anyone have a solution or advise for me?

thanks in advance, James

WSM has a very comprehensive test protocol for the cruise.

I had my computer rebuilt last summer, but it would have been quicker and cheaper to get a rebuilt unit from Roger than the source I used - he had trouble finding a replacement for the transistor that had failed. Even if it turns out to be something mechanical, it seems these computers are doomed to fail, so it would not be wasted effort.
