anyone used the Accel distributor cap?
I have noticed these on Ebay, they pop up every once in a while. Accel has always been known for their ignition parts and these caps pop up now and then for 10$-20$. Has anyone bought one of these Accel Distributor caps? Just wondering.
note...the ones I,ve seen are for the 4.5 L motors.

Personally never heard of them and as far as I know the 77 to 84 distributor caps are only made by Bosch. They can be sold by Standard and Inter but a Bosch is what comes in the box.
We have Bosch on sale for $59.99.

Roger..thanks. I saw your posting for the holiday sale and that reminded me of these Accel caps I had seen . I,m familiar with ACCEL and their ignition parts for American cars, but had never seen anything for Porsche...until I saw these. I was just curious if anyone had heard of them. I copied the Ebay link, but I dont know if I did it right. I will be emailing you for a few things on your holiday list! Thanks again.

Be careful. I've never seen ACCEL make anything for Porsche before as an OE replacement part aside from ignition wires (custom made to order). This may be a China knockoff.

Chuck, the fitment for Ebay items is determined by the seller, not the manufacturer. So Gearheadvg says it fits a 928, not necessarily Accel. Basically it's a gamble that I would not be willing to make that Gearheadvg even knows what a Porsche 928 looks like.

I don't know about distributor cap(s), but my old 84 had an Accel coil from the PO and that worked okay. This is an 18-yr old pic from when I replaced the head gasket.

The Accel cap comes with a rotor. The cap states "made in Germany" and the rotor states "W-Germany".
The Accel cap does not have the Bosch cover. The cap seems less robust in design - example - the eight contact points are just that pieces of metal sticking in the air with no rear support unlike the Bosch cap.
Personally I would not use it but I will leave that up to you.

thats asking for trouble,
you will also see that the Accel cap is not grounded so it will be a lot easier for the spark to find another path and possibly give an unsuspecting mechainc a good jolt
This is why you should only use Bosh parts on the 928

Roger, thanks for the pics and assessment. I wonder if they are a Chinese knock off. Like I said, I've never seen Accel parts for Porsche. I've seen these on Ebay and they sell out fairly fast, so somebody has been buying them.

Just for further complication, the MB V8 from around 1980-85 uses the same dist, with diff advance weights, and maybe a diff drive gear. The 380, 450, and 500 SE, SEL, etc will accept the same dist cap. Not that anyone would get other than the Bosch from Roger.
