INTERMITTENTS.
1984 manual. The doors lock and unlock correctly with the key all the time. The problem is the door lock button works fine and then doesnt work. It will work fine again on the same drive and stop again. Ideas, anyone?
Also, the speedo and fuel gauge do not work immediately on cold days, but work after about ten minutes of driving (when the car gets warmed up). Ideas, anyone?
By the way, I still have some parts (hatch seal, rear trans crossmember, assorted other parts if anyone is in need.
Walt.

By "Door lock button", you mean the little push button on the console, right?
Going to guess that the button has issues, or the wiring leading to it.
Intermittent problems often end up being bad connections, poor contacts (dirty) in the switch, or broken wires (inside the insulation).
My gas gauge does the exact same thing. Often times, thumping the upper left corner of the pod will get it to work...
But that makes the temp gauge fail at the same time. I've dealt with a "sometimes it works" temp gauge on and off for a while.
The next time I pull the pod, I will go through all of the connections...Plugs to the cluster, connections on the plastic, connections to the gauges themselves. bnm342
Again.

Correct on the button. I suspected a faulty connection because when it works, it does so perfectly. The fuel gauge takes a while to register accurately, but once it starts, it does so all day. I suspect a connection that shares the gauge and speedo because they fail and recover in tandem. Whats the deal with a odometer that never worked after reinstallation?

Gas gauge and speedo are common starting at a connector in the spare wheel well, where corrosion and physical damage are most likely.
