Default Expensive seal solution, sorry....

I was in need of a pair of new interior scraper seals for my doors. After speaking to two of our regular providers, it was clear that these items are $300.00 plus a pop. I happened to be clearing my garage (see my Ebay page for 928 items), and came across some surplus door seals from my 1994 seville. cut to length, these are a great fit and they installed in less than 5 minutes per side. The profile is a felt seal with soft rubber bulb that seals perfectly and does not drag on the window in either direction. I know the purist will gasp, but only a purist could tell that they are not stock.
I have enough for about six cars....

6 cars? How long are the doors on a '94 Seville?

Got a pic of the Seville seals?

Great timing!! Give some pics and part sources.

I was just going to post something about trying to crowd source options from other cars. I have to believe every car has to solve this same problem.

For referrence here here is the seal in question.
MI’d be interested in other possible solves

Amen. Like many of us I need to refresh almost every weather seal. The hatch seal was so big it was not too tough to justify the cost, but to fully refresh just one door with all rubber parts is (SWAG) about $1000.

If there are standard or repurposed parts that fit definitely please post them.

I will post some pictures of the seal installed and the seal itself later today. And here I thought that I would be chastised for being innovative! By the way, the seville seals go completely around the door openings (they are four door). I made both of my seals from one door seal and have plenty left.

I replaced the window seals and scraper using about $20 worth of JC Whitney parts. I'm not a stickler for authenticity; I just want a car that drives.

can an you show us which parts you used? It would be helpful since you already did the research and found a good solution. Also could you post a pic of it installed?

Great alternative! Anyone got a similar solution for the external wiper?
Shawn Stanford found a work around, see post #129:

... but is there anything better?

... Shawn jumped in while I was typing this... but I have the link to his thread where the part numbers are mentioned.

I don't think you will ever be chastised for suggesting something innovative that helps us keep these gorgeous cars in top condition..

Keep it up

^What Shawn said.

Some folks are "concourse" types and need everything to be exact & perfect.

Some folks want a car that runs & drives & doesn't leak.
If I can find a comparable part for significantly less, I go for it.

I am, however, a bit confused.

Are these the door seals (that go around the perimeter of the door)?
Or window seals (that go around the window opening)?

I have a very clean set of inside wiper seals available. $100 plus shipping. Rubber is supple and there are no cracks or tears. Send me a PM if you're interested.

There's an outfit in California "International Mercantile" that started out as a rubber trim supplier in Long Beach, and it looks like it has graduated to specializing in 356 and 912 restoration parts in Del Mar. If it's the same company/people, they've been a reliable source for restoration trim for vintage Euro cars. It was pretty convenient to wander by with a sample of something and wander home with a few yards of body, door, roof or window seal. Seems like mid-century British and Italian specialty car builders pieced together the same stock materials, so restoration pieces were relatively easy to "find" in modern materials and glue. They might be worth a look if there are straight-stock rubber trim pieces needed. They advertise is Panorama, so may offer PCA discount.

I'll try to take a pic tonight.

Well, there is a fine line between concourse and hack job.

It also depends if the part is readily available, what the part does, and the OEM costs.

For a strip of rubber that most (if any) concourse judges would even be able to tell....meh.

But in the same breath we see electrical systems hacked up but "still work" all in the name of saving a buck because "I don't care about concourse....". Same mentality cutting a hole in the fender to make the clutch master job easier.

Absolutely.

There's a huge difference between "close but not factory" and "Hack it do death with a Kitchen knife".
