Default headlamp motor wiring

my new SE has the really annoying habit of popping the headlamps at the first turn on the lighting ****, on my 86 the first turn simply activates the side lamps and fogs if switched. anyone know what to do to deactivate this?

i was told to disconnect a silver box with 'hella' and a few other things written on it in german along with a 911 part number but this has not had the desired effect.

Sounds to me to be a faulty Headlight switch. I would check that first.

apparently there is a small bunch of wires coming out from near one of the relays (?dim/dip) on the 88 cars with a white 3pin connector which needs disconnecting, if i can find it...
