Door Sill Making Annoying Creaking noise
Hi All
I searched the forum and didn't see anything but have to believe I am not the only one who has had this issue.
My passenger side door sill has developed a significant creaking noise- not a rattle but a real annoying creak.
When the door is closed but not fully latched tight, it goes away.
When I took the sill off I noticed it was missing ONE of the white trim clips. Also, some of the clip retainer slots on the underside of the sill had some slight cracks
I repaired the cracks with a little super-glue. On the missing clip, I didn't have another retainer clip of the exact type so modified one from a BMW and it seemed to fit OK and seemed to click in nicely. Everything seemed to snap back down nicely in place. All fixed....Right?!
NO...Still creaking.....less so, but still creaking.
Anybody have any suggestions or tricks for this problem beyond buying a new sill and clips?
Thanks

Good tip
thanks for this post. I too have annoying creaking that I think I have traced down to my door sills. I remove mine and see if it goes away.
I was was thinking of putting a vibration damping backing on the sills to help as well. Something thin like duct tape or thin rubber.

Maybe your doors are sagging on their hinges? Measure the gaps and, if so, let me know and I'll send you some shims to correct it/them.

Not the door sill
Today I removed the passenger door sill and test drive and the creaking was still there. The hinge and door gap was perfect and consistent and flush so no issue there. More sleuthing is needed. Seems to be armrest relented.

remove the arm rest from the door.
Then get slightly larger washers for the arm rest mounting bolts,
they have to fit in the plastic cutouts on the mount.
NOTE the wider washer will distribute the loads the arm rest sees its a weak design.
Open the armrest and with a long phillips screwdriver,
tighten the hinges and the handle mounts,
put some lubricant on the hinges so they operate smoothly,
then install the armrest

Thanks for the suggestions, I didn't intend this to turn into a chasing noice thread, but since people are helping.... :-)
I have been using large fender washers with matching rubber washers under the bolts used to hold the armrest to distribute the load as you suggest.
I removed the armrest and center trim last night did a bunch of banging on the panel to identity the rattle/creaking noise. The door release pull was a little wobbly so I tightened the cable. Maybe that was it. I noticed the look **** has play but booth doors have the same play so I doubt that was it issue. I tightened the pivot bolt the door arrester. I could not really find a smoking gun, I am going to drive around with the armrest off, if the noice continues, I will continue to dismantle till I find the issue. Thanks
