Risky Business
I noticed this thread on 924/931/944/951/968 Forum
Is this true?

They also said that Porsche would not give them a car to use in a movie about prostitution. The producers had to buy the car(s) for the movie. The producers said that it had to be a german car so they could use the line "So, who's the u-boat commander?"

But seriously, folks, I've also noticed that the sound of the Risky Business 928 does not sound like a stock 928. I just assumed they put some sort of free flowing exhaust on it to get that sound. When the car starts in the garage, it has that "928 starting" sound. Dunno if Ferraris (assuming 308 here) sound like that.

One line for 44k?. Must be nice to have money to burn - what I want to know is did they really drop that shark into the lake or was it a shell of another?.

I'd say they dropped some form of a 928 in the water because when they open the door in the repair shop, the water coming out looked pretty real...or did it? - Ruf

From what I heard it was a shell.......no engine. If you notice the car right before it went swimming it sits very high in the front......like there's nothing under the hood.......I'm sure they probably had a good one for driving scenes and a dud for the lake.

Definately a stand in Car. There was obviously no motor or transmission no tail pipes. Just as the car starts to fall in the water look at the front bumper cap "Beat to hell" . Broken fog lamp left side.
But how about that Red "S" in the show room. and the poster of the "NEW" 944 comming soon to a dealer near you.

FredisGT,
I watched the AMC movie w/ the captions. I concur with what was said, but don't know if it is true. It is TV, remember?
As far as the exhaust sound goes... I think most of the time it's a 928 w/modified exhaust. But there are times when the car is revved high rpm, it sounds like a ferrari (monza tip).
I think our cars would be more valuable today if DeMornay and Cruise would have done it in the 928 instead of the train.
"Joel, have you ever done it in a Porsche?" oooyea

Speaking of Movies
That same night before the movie I was watching the trivia on the MusicChoice channel, and a flash came across the screen during the Sheena Easton song that said she divorced documentary director Tim DeLarm after 11 months. Just curious if our Tim DeLarm is any relation to that one?

Form what I hear about the actions of DeMornay and Cruise during the making of the movie,.......they probably DID do it in the 928........just not on screen!

In movies, All sound effects are added afterwards. They'll use what ever sounds good weather it be Ferrari or what ever.

On this Sheena website see the 1996-1997 section. There's a picture of a Mr. Tim DeLarm there (site blocks copying of jpg URLs). Handsome devil.

I've never met our 928 Tim, but maybe some of the SoCal 928 guys have.
Then again, maybe it's none of our business...
