I'M BRINGING THIS OLD THREAD OF MINE BACK!

After several years of just living with it, I started to look at this problem again since I am now overall wiser to the electrical connections in the car and how to care for them. And it wasn't until today that I was able to confirm it's not an electrical problem!

Prior to today I have switched the pulse sender for a new one, cleaned the grounds, cleaned all door connections in along the harness with the pulse sender connection, cleaned the door light connections (Thanks for letting me know the power goes through the door light, Dr. Bob!), and checked through the wiring diagram.

When I recently replaced the pulse sensor, I noticed that when I locked the door, the light would flash during the locking sequence, but not at full lock. The next interesting hint was when I locked the door but the lock seemed to bind a bit and the lock didn't go all the way down, but it was flashing then. I tried it again today by having the window down and used the manual lock disk in the door. At halfway the light will flash. Fully down it will not.

I'm now thinking that it simply is either a pin positioning problem or a pulse sender positioning problem.

I'm going to play with it a bit, but my main question is around the pulse sender installation. There is a hole in the door where the base of the sender connects, and there is also a lip at the end of the halo. Does that lip go inside the door pin hole, or does it sit on top of it? Wasn't sure if the lip was to keep the halo at a certain height or to keep horizontal pressure on the halo to stay in place.

5 years later…RESOLVED.

i was working on another door issue, then decided to simply flip around the pulse sender ring.

That was it. That was the issue. I had to laugh at my idiocy, but that’s what this car does. 🤣

Now I can rest easy with the soothing red pulse of the door lock.

Thanks for all the updates to this thread and glad you finally got it resolved!

I subscribed to this thread because I think this is a cool feature and even cooler implementation (LED powered by a coil that does not touch it) and have considered retrofitting it to my 86.5 with factory alarm. However with all the fuzziness in getting even the stock setup to function correctly, I think I can persuade myself to live without it!!

if you worked on the door last yes,
but if it just stopped working then you may need to replace the part.

I suggest to reread this thread to garner the proper troubleshooting hints
