Is non ethanol fuel a must?

I understand Hacker's point. I don't know for a fact that ethanol is causing problems with our fuel lines. On the other hand, I do distinctly remember that some manufactures recommended not to use ethanol in certain cars. There must be a reason. And here I confess that I don't know what it is. I do recall the European manufacturers were slower to adopt Ethanol approved lines than US ones, and I know some of my 928 fuel lines have disolved.
On the other hand, it is striking that my 928 friends in Europe do not have nearly the same problems with fuel line failures as we seem to in the States. For me, this is more than anecdotal (as Hacker implies), since I know a lot of 928 owners in Europe now. Of course, I cannot claim that is definitely due to ethanol as my post insinuated. That having been said, I'll still avoid gas with ethanol content in my 928s especially when it makes up such a large amount of the gas.
Just call me superstitious I guess.
