These discussions really are a waste of time comparing a 991 to a 928. Nobody buys either of these based on a comparison of a dynamic or value.

We buy them based on how we feel or imagine the car in our mind.

For me the 928 is a seriously cool car both design wise and to drive. I love the feel of the car inside, the sound it makes and the quality of build.

I also value the fact that it takes dedication to run a 928, you have to be enthusiastic to run one as opposed to a new car. I know when I see a 928 or other older cars that they make this effort for the same reason .

No new 911 can ever replicate that.

But wait, this is saying the 911 is smaller and lighter in every way. So the pic is just an optical illusion..

I just put my 79 in the garage with my 356 for the first time..now there's a contrast. The 928 goes on forever!

An old 928 in my eyes is a million times nicer than a 991, not to mention sooooooo cool, but everyone's different.

I don't think the comparison is valid, I'd argue the 928 of it's time is the 918 of today. The 928 was intended to replace the 911. Comparing it to whatever's survived of that line just doesn't make sense.

When my car first came to me, one of the major considerations was just how much garage space it would need. My 2-car home garage at the time was already cramped, with a 4-door Explorer DD/tow vehicle, and a cloned LeGrand sports racer and an early Lotus road car sort of sharing the second space. The 928 footprint is within an inch or so of the 4-door Gen1 Explorer SUV(!), forcing that particular Lotus to move on to a new owner.

The LeGrand moved to the wall of a storage bay where it still hangs today across from its sister and below a couple NOS 1960's Lotus race cars suspended from the ceiling. It's getting to the time to start shedding some of that toy collection. A vintage racing weekend costs well the dark side of $10k for any one of those cars, plus at least a month of full-time prep effort. It's cheaper overall to go rent a seat in an already-prep'd modern race car. My SCCA license is long expired, helmet and other gear is all outdated, plus I'm not as immortal as I used to be.
