I would be willing to pay $300 for the tester. I would, however, expect it to accommodate the PSD bleed procedure. I'd be willing to pay that right now - this instant if the unit was ready- as I'll probably be paying a shop to use the Hammer on my '89 within the next month.

I would love a software w/cable solution. However, the nice thing with a piece of hardware is that it cannot be pirated. So, while I'd love the PeeCee solution I understand and I'd live with the extra-brick-solution.

Default Yes this is an old but important topic

I know, I know this is an old topic, but this device could have saved me a lot of money. Heck, I'm considering going to SITM(OK, I won't go, the sharks would eat my 944 or could I 'half' go?) just to get a chance to use the 9288 tool, which I just learned existed.

Is this project to create this device still active?

BTW, what happened to JDSPorsche.com? Porsche in the address?

I just got mine last Friday and used it to reset an airbag fault and diagnose what was causing it. Also played with some of the other features (LH/EZK testing, actuator testing, etc.).

Nice unit. Works as advertised.

Got mine via 928 Specialists. [info for JDS 928 Diagnostic Tester "The Spanner" at 928 Specialists]

Default Excellent

Cool,

Thanks Ed. I wonder how the software update is coming for the 944s. Maybe not since the 944 owners are a cheap crowd j/k

It would be nice to have, since I will someday have to get a 928 GTS for my son

Hi Mark,
The 944 software could be released as an addition to the 928 soon. But the demand for the 944 option is very low.

I assume because they are much less complex cars to fault find ?

I'm still here, although my website and info@ mail servers have been out of action since last Saturday - they are expected back on today...

John,
That sounds good to me ! I could finally check the brain of my 928 and 944.
The 911 doesn't have a brain just a soul that I haven't found yet

John, I am still working on testing it on several different models. The 944 is a different animal but this will be a worthwhile investment for anyone that owns an '87 to '94 Porsche once the software is fully sorted, in my opinion.

I wired up some jumpers to run from the 19 pin connector to use to try and troubleshoot a 944S, but had limited success with getting it to read codes. It acted like it was reading them but I got a lot of errors, so I want to track down the proper connector and pin out before giving you any real feedback. Any chance you have that info handy?

I also tested the unit on a 964 without any luck, but that car had known wiring/DME issues so I did not get any quality info for you on that one.

Regards,

Hi Scott,
Doesn't the 944 have the 12way connector, which you have the lead for ?

Hi John, I would be interested in one for my 87 S4 in the $300 range. What would the cost be for the mods to a '87?

Hi Terrence,
Well the price ended up at a bit more than $300 :-) They are for sale from 928 Specialists - see link earlier in this thread.

To upgrade an 87's ECUs for diganostics would be 100USD for the pair of chips.

John, I received the 19 pin round plug lead from you, but I did not get the 12 pin lead with it. If you have one that you can send to me for testing purposes, that would be great, as I have a 944S and a 951 right now that I test the diagnostic tool on.

There are two of these in KC now, eh? Cool!
