Changing to adjustable front height
Another "one thing leads to another" .
83 Euro
After finding aluminum ball joints, I checked ride height with the idea of also getting this right prior to alignment.
Front measures 130mm, about 50mm (or 2") low. I don't have front adjustment sleeves/nuts. To convert I need sleeves, nuts and lower spring perchs for sure. I will also replace the shocks.
But can I use my springs?
I talked to Roger and he is puttting together prices. He wasn't sure if the springs, though significantly shorter than they were, might still be too high for the conversion. I can also replace the springs with new 84 spec, which came with the front adjusters, but that's an extra expense if not needed.
Has anyone done this and used the existing springs, and if so what effect on ride height?

My 83 Euro had M474 from new - Bilsteins. When I bought new front shocks, they came with adjusting collars, so I just installed them, and adjusted the height back to spec (from 145mm), as the springs were correct. The book says fitting gas shocks where not previously fitted will raise the corner ~10mm. Note Bilsteins are able to be reco'ed, but sometimes its not economic.

I'm not sure what is going on with your springs, but the short answer is the springs from a non-adjustable front end need to be replaced with springs made for the adjustment.
