New Owner
Well, after lurking on Rennlist for almost two years, I've finally purchased my first Porsche. It's a silver '87 5spd with LSD. I bought it from the original owner who basically parked it the last last few years. It had 100,000 three years ago, and now it has about 105,000. The car arrived here last week, and I dropped it off at the shop today to start the timing belt/waterpump replacement as well as whatever else we find that should be done now. I prefer to work on my own cars, but I'm not really ready to dive into this job. Anyways, over the last several months, I've at least looked at every thread in the archives. Thanks for all of the info, and I hope that I can contribute back in the future!

Hi Gary,
out of curiosity: at which shop in the Boston area are you having the work done?

I'm actually having it worked on by Shawn Hendley up in Manchester, NH (I work in Nashua). He came highly recommended and was very enthusiastic about working on the car. I called EPE in Natick, but I didn't really get the feeling that they wanted the business, plus they quoted me the same price as the dealer.

Welcome, Gary. Congrats on your new acquisition (and on the Lotus, too; amazing car). Always nice to hear about someone rescuing a shark from a less than enthusiastic PO.

Don't get me wrong. They were very friendly on the phone, I just assumed that they were pretty busy based on the price that they quoted me.

OK, got it, Yeah they are not cheap. but they are good. I vouch for that. they did the work on "Gretch" for my first ten years of ownership. Now, I have my own, well equipped, heated shop (and a sizable fleet of vehicles) so I twist the wrenches myself.
But they are very good. Mostly they build racing engins for a number of race car owners. They are pretty well known in the 911 circles, and they have two 928 experts. In a pinch they are a good insurance policy.

Welcome Gary...best of luck with your new Shark. I presume you'll be keeping her off of the salty, wet, Beantown streets, right? Re: the 928 Forum...no need to lurk anymore...join the madness I too lurked before buying my 89 s4 so I understand where you're coming from. Let us know when you get photos of your vehicles up on the web...

Hi Gary, congrats on your recent 928 purchase, sounds like a real nice car!
So there's a new S4 running around beantown, cool.
I've had Autobahn Performance Inc in Peabody do some work on my car in the past and they were decent, they have some guys that really know the 928s there. Its right off of Rt-1 and it was cheaper than most of the other Porsche shops around. Might be worth checking out, even if just for another quote for comparison. 978-536-2667 Bernie was the shop manager to ask for last time i dealt with them about a year and a half ago.
Good luck with your new car, I'm sure you'll love it. And welcome.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I was very gentle with the car because I didn't want to really try it out until after the timing belt was done, so I'm looking forward to when I can actually get out and enjoy it.

Hi Gary,
Good to see another shark owner in MA-NH. Im in and out of manchester alot, maybe we'll see you around town.
Id like to hear more about Shawn Hendley in Manchester. I do some wrenching but he is right around the corner from me and Ive been real busy lately. Have you met him yet and who referred him? Is his shop named Shawn Hendley?
