Hypothetically speaking, let's say that you found yourself with a quite nice '87 S4 auto with around 94,000 miles that you were committed to keep nice. Further, let's imaging you had a '84 S 5 speed that was kind of ratty and needed, well, everything.
Thinking about the ratty '84, it is set up to run with cup wheels and sway bars etc. It also has a lot of currently dead weight in a non-operable A/C system, ripped and quite heavy front seats and rear seats that won't be used since the '87 is what the kids would be driven around in. You can see where this is going. Since all of that stuff needs to come out to be reconditioned/replaced anyway it got me thinking about how much weight that represents and how she would drive with all of that off the car.
So basically keep the '87 in top and stock shape, use the '84 as a stripped down (but totally reversible) car that is focused on a different sort of driving than the '87.
Keep in mind that no 928s have been hurt in this process - though experiment only at this point.

Sounds like the makings of a fun track car - go for it. Look up threads from The Fixer - he had a wonderful 83 that he really put on a diet and made it a fantastic light and nimble cruiser/fun car.

Thanks guys.
The key idea / realization here is that making the ratty one nice will be a $20,000 thing but making it run not much since I've already spent that money.
Thanks for the Fixer reference, let me go check it out.
Hope you are all having a good weekend.
