Thanks Chucker. That was a very interesting article.
One thing really strikes me. The incredible stupidity, the complete lack of common sense that the officials in the gov't display. The EPA rules simply have to apply, even though without the multiplicity of 959's. They show no ability to use logic, and simply decide that this car must meet standards, even though the impact would have been nil. In fact, I can make an argument that the modifications that took place, and the work and energy involved, created far more environmental impact than all of the 959's without any modifications. But what's new?

Last year I made a tour of the Porsche factory service center in Zuffenhausen. There were six 959s in the garage, several had license plates. The Porsche museum off-road Paris - Dakar car was also in the garage. Quite an eye full!

Hey Gregg, you are welcome. I agree, and that begs the question. Our gov't has set standards for the open road that apply to everything that travels on the road. Motor bikes and cars...... I would feel a whole lot better in a 959 than on a super bike it I got smacked in the side.

Chucker,
Thanks for posting the URL for the Autoweek 959 Federalization story. From what I read, looks like some of these cars are going for upwards of $425,000. So, here's a wild-a$$ proposition...how 'bout the lot of us here on the 928 Forum pitch in and buy the $275,000 model and resell it at a profit. With the proceeds from the resale (approx $100k...a WAG), we can pay for one major service (e.g., T-B & H20 pump, minor suspension work, ) for all active 928 Forum members Or, we could start a 928 Owner's Foundation or something...
OK...that's enough...I'm delerious...time to sleep
