Sunroof ?'s
Installed new sunroof switch, Won't open but motors in closed position.
Popped the motor cover installed handy dandy manual roof opening tool -thanks Porsche guy's. Grate Idea! - . Sunroof opens and closes freely with
aforementioned tool so I am assuming that the cables I don't see are ok, the cables run thru the tubes, right?.
I will do the power feed check with the multi-meter. Can I apply a straight 12v feed to motor contacts to check for operation? Or will I fry it?.
Assuming the power feed is alright, and I still can't get the motor to operate in one or both directions is there a feasable method of disassembly and cleaning, or, am I due to open the wallet...again?
The sunroof seal seems to have dimpled down at the rear center point of the sunroof proper, just a bit of it about 1/4-3/8" wide. Did I do this manally retracting roof to far? Also after sitting during the day the right front seems to droop about 1/32 -1/16 of an inch, to me that's noticeable.
In the open/partially open position I can't see any way to adjust this droop out. Is it shimmed/cammed somewhere out of sight?
Nope, it isn't dragging the paint anywhere...yet!
TIA

John. You could test the motor by simply dropping it down from it's mount and hitting the switch. Adjusting the sunroof can be a bit of a challenge, don't ask me why I know. I suggest visiting the Nichol's site to see just how to remove and re-install the entire assembly. You will need to remove the interior sunroof cover (easy to do) in order to get at the height adjustments. A thin pillow on top of the center console helps as you may spend quite a bit of time on your back looking up.
You should be able to move the sunroof back and forth by hand with the motor removed. This should give you a sence of where it might be binding. Also if you have it out, you might consider replacing all the seals, cleaning the tracks and lubricating. However the horizontal and vertical adjustments are critical for proper operation.

GT,
Thanks...Kind of figured that.
Fine tuning anything can be a drudge.
Silver,
Nope, the motor does turn a little in the closed position. There is a little shaft with a counterweight/flat pulley(?) looking thing on it that spins while in the closed position with the switch pushed to the closed position.
Nothing at all with the swich pushed to open position.
I'm starting to think, 'CLUTCH"! Unfortunately I don't think there is any adjustment -tightening- left on the screw.
Will check at dawn.
GT, Rails are clean, top and bottom, front to rear, almost looks like chrome with a few minor pits.

It is a clutch but its called the sunroof transmission and the screw in the center won't tighten any thing down. remove the "clutch" and see if the motor spins in both directions when switch is pushed. if the motor moves in both directions after you remove the Clutch the switch and motor should be fine. If the motor still does not move freely in both directions after removal of trans. you will need to move backwards in your thinking. possibly the motor or switch its self. I had the same problems that you decribed. I ordered a new/used clutch from 928 int. and cleaned the two cables (years of crud)
and the roof now works like a charm. report back with what you find. if needed i have a good/working motor and a set of new cables i would be willing to let go of.
