Default 1982 5 speed fuel drip under tank

Hi guys... This morning I notice a small fuel spot under the fuel tank.
I removed the guard that protects the fuel pump/filter and the lines are good and not leaking. There is fresh fuel present on top of the remaining plate. I see where the bolts are to lower the shield but I'm assuming that the gas tank will also lower. Any ideas would be appreciated. 20 years with this car and never seen this before.
Thanks!
Rick

Looks like the strainer seal is leaking, if you are unlucky like myself you will find a crack in the tank. Has the tank collapsed at all?

No tank looks perfect. Is there a way I can take the straps off without dropping the tank ???

You'd have to support the tank someway. If something is leaking it would be in your best interest to refresh everything. My 82 was leaking from the breather line above the tank between the full neck and the top of the main tank. I pulled the tank and cleaned up as much as I could. No leaks since.

First off drain the tank. I like to do it in a clean white paint bucket so I can see what comes out. Once empty you can just unbolt the rear straps so you can access the strainer.

start by removing the short hose off the pump
after that stops you need to remove the hose from the strainer. I think its a tall 18mm socket that will let you unscrew the strainer. Once off the seal is in a grove of the strainer

Replaced strainer today. Spayed BP Blaster for days waiting for parts and when I put the 17mm socket on it it came out as if it was loose. The strainer probably was original (cork gasket) and looked perfect except for discoloration . New one went in perfectly as well. All is good, Thanks for the help.....

Gasket is usually black rubber in my experience here. I also used anti-seize on the threads, as I stripped the threaded insert due to frozen strainer threads in the first tank. My wrench recommended only tighten the strainer JUST enough to stop it leaking.
