Default Ignition switch replacement to fix headlight issue

Good morning, hope everyone is having a good week.

When dealing with an intermittent headlight no operating fault that responds to fiddling with the ignition switch it seems that needing to replace the switch is not uncommon.

In the diagram below which actual part needs to be replaced? Is it #7?

Thanks!

Ah, so pod comes off and the wiring removed, new one installed, wiring replaced, and then reassemble?

Tom --

Do a little searching for the procedure. No need to remove the pod if you have small hands and an angled screwdriver, but you will want to lift it some. I think I used the guide at the Pirtle tips site.

Get the switch from your local 928 International. It's a piece that's shared among other Porsche models, enough so that there are cheap knock-offs in the market that are less than durable.

I recently replaced my first ignition switch in an 86.5, took me about 20 minutes but I've taken multiple pods apart so that made things easier.

Once the pod is loose and pulled up & back, I used one of these to remove the top screw holding the ignition switch in. This made the job rather easy.

Be certain to disconnect the battery.
The space behind the dash is configured in a way that can easily short screwdriver against dash..
