I think I've read somewhere that it should be around 8.30 for a GT, which seems reasonable.

Wow, that's 20-30 seconds faster than what I'd expect.

Anders,
If you are dreaming about racing on the Nuhrburgring, better to hurry up!
We were there for the 929EURO2003 meeting, and had a lot a fun, but that day, were a lot of accidents with the result that the ring was closed for several hours.
Few days later, we heard that the the German authorities are discussing a possible closing of the ring for the public, due to all these accidents
(The ring is registered as a public road, I.e. the normal insurance are covering accident cost, and for sure, they also have something to say in this regards)
Better hurry up before it is to late Anders!
BTDT enough!

I'm not going to attempt to brake any lap time records, just interested in what a 928 does a lap on since there's so much talk about Porsche's and other models lap times.

But hey, I can live with having a car that is only 1 minute behind the Carrera GT.

Anders,
If you end up running your 928 on the Ring, please get some video and/or digicam shots of the event. Would love to see them....what a vision ;-) Have fun!

Oh, FYI, there is an interesting video simulation called Grand Prix Legends that has the Nürburgring as one of the track options. I have yet to master it any of the available cars. :-(

Bild magazine has made a test on the Nordshleife in 1990.
Porsche 928 GT: 8'46"53
BMW M5: 8'56"
MB 500 SL: 8'57"57

Lizard,
Does that mean if I take my 89 s4 with the sh**ty front alignment airborne (e.g., across a local railroad crossing at speed) that it is possible it will "settle" appropriately and quit eating up my RE730s?

anders, the best way to drive the ring is to NOT time it.

I'll be doing a lap or two this spring/summer in a rental.

Relax guys, I'm not going to do any crazy stuff. Just wanted to know the capabilities of the 928 on a track like the ring since it's one of the best bases for measurements for sports cars since it has pretty much everything from bumpy slow corners to fast straights.

Anders, let's get the 400hp track-prepped 928 from Porsche Centrum in kĝge (http://www.bilinfo.dk/porschecentrum...p?id=162100105) tow it to the ring and see how fast we can kill ourselves

Brake issues aside, the ring was a blast. I'd love to do it again, if for no other reason but the sheer madness of it. I have no idea about my laptime (and frankly, would rather not know), but I'm sure it's not in the same ballpark as 8:46. Hell, I'm not even in the same game

Hey y'all...whose 928 is SJX 5390 in the above photo? Is that a factory car or one used in the Bild magazine test?

Also, wasn't the 928 originally developed with extensive testing at the Ring?
If so, our cars should feel very "at home" on that track. I agree with the idea that keeping a record of laptimes, at least at the Ring, is a fruitless exercise...its what you experience during the run that matters...not how long it took you to do it.

Have fun!
