I like a firm ride, Lorelei doesn't.

Has anyone put Koni's with sport springs on the left side and Bilstein's on the right with standard springs?

I think that my be the perfect solution.

Sorry to hear that; maybe change positions?

Wishing it was my birthday today. More leverage with the wife for a purchase.

So what's the difference in the Bilsteins vs. the Boges? i.e. what are you getting for the extra $378?

Bilsteins yield a more sporty right thanks to firming the suspension up. Boge is more of a 'comfort' shock. They are fairly durable and the OE replacement recommended by Porsche.

FWIW, I just removed a set of Bilsteins yesterday as the owner hated the rough, unforgiving ride they provided. Put on Boge's and he's the happiest man in Texas right now.

Person preference for me is Koni's.

I hate to say it but I may stay Boge given how bad the roads in CA are nowadays. At the most I may toss on a set of Eibachs at the time of replacement to firm it up during hard turning.

The other plus to the Bilstein's is they are rebuildable. As long as you don't need replacement hard parts they will rebuild starting at $95/shock. Hard parts (new rod, etc.) are quite reasonable in the grand scheme.

Mike

p.s. if you scroll to the bottom of the page you can switch the version

I go back and forth between getting the Bilsteins, Konis, or sticking with Boge. The Boge on my car are the first replacement set and probably have about 50-60K miles on them. I find the ride a bit soft and slightly floaty in the rear going over abrupt bridge or pavement seams. Not bad, but definitely not sporty. Would a new set of Boge be more controlled than 50K/10+ year Boge?

In the long run the Bilsteins will be the cheapest option as you can rebuild them as stated above.

They will also custom fab parts for your shocks if they are NLA like for a full set of gold bodied Bilsteins.

I use them on my 81 with stock springs and 18 inch rims and they are firm but by no means uncomfortable.

I just need to wait until after Werks Reunion to get a set for my 89. Can't max my cards just yet

My "compromise" started out with new Eibach springs all the way around with new Boge/Sachs dampers. After a while I swapped the front springs for a set of GT springs, still with the Boge/Sachs dampers. The firmer rear Eibachs helped manage the body roll in corners, while the GT springs in the front helped a lot with the harshest road "features" while driving.

Mike,
I believe that Koni will rebuild also. And Konis are adjustable to what firmness you like. Most folk set it once and forget it, BUT it is possible to adjust in situ.
