My coolant pressure sensor started to leak a little coolant today. Ordered a new one.
1. Can anyone tell me which side of the expansion tank this sensor is connected to? Looks like there are 2 outlets/inlets to the expansion tank. My existing sensor is connected to the left side with the long hose going to the thermostat housing. Some other websites mention that the sensor is located between the expansion tank and the radiator breather outlet (this is the long hose that runs along the top of the radiator all the way to the expansion tank). The parts diagram shows the sensor but not exactly which hose it goes into and it looks like there are a couple of hoses that are connected by a nipple
. I'm a bit confused because I'm thinking the previous owner may have switched the side the sensor was supposed to go in when he replaced an old hose.
2. I assume the car could overheat if the leak gets bigger?

Does the pressure sensor go between hoses 39 and 41? Is hose 41 a 2 piece hose? And if so what is the nipple 42 for?
Does it even matter which of the 2 hoses this sensor is connected to? Sorry for the stupid questions. This is so confusing!
Any pics would be appreciated or just a description on where this thing goes.

It makes no difference which hose or reservoir connection nipple. The switch looks at coolant system pressure, which is consistent at either port.

I don't think so. No worries about the questions. If you are confused on this stuff, well that's what this place is for.
I don't have a pic, but the diagram is accurate as far as I know. The pressure sensor goes on the hose closest to the fender, between hose 39 and 41. Left or right depends on what way you are looking at it from.
41 is a one piece going from the top of the radiator to the sensor. I am not sure what "Nipple #42" is for.
The sensor measures system pressure. If there is a significant drop, there's a problem (usually significant coolant loss) and the light on the dash is activated. Given that, I can't see there being a need for it to be on a specific hose, or in a specific location (other than being "right"). But I could be wrong on that, wouldn't be the first time.
And believe me, these are far from 'stupid' questions. You don't know, you want it correct, so you ask.
A friend of mine once said (and I told him I was stealing it):
There's no need to apologize for your ignorance, unless you do nothing to correct it.

And I think I already know the answer but if the sensor completely fails will it start blowing a huge amount of coolant? I'm debating whether to drive the car for the next couple of days until I get the part.
