As a second generation Porsche guy I am totally out of my realm on 924's and 944's . I know a little about them but have been racing turbo charged 911/935s since th 80's . That being said I am looking at one of the 15 or so factory 924GTRs . The car raced in IMSA and Trans Am in the 80's and is pretty much original but needs an engine rebuild and a mechanical going through. My understanding is these cars handle wonderfuly and with todays advances the power plants can be rebuilt to be very dependable while still making lots of power. I plan on using the car for various club racing events and wanted to drive something diffenent than my typical twin turbo 911 variants. Plus this is a car that has solid race history and than appeals to me . Any feedback on these cars would be appreciated. Also any comments as to value would be welcome

my opinion: you would be a legend!
do searches on www.924board.org
they have more specific topics on the GTR over there with more contributors with info, links and pics.
thats if you havent done it already.

I just went there. Thank you for the link .
I am already a legend in my own mind.... I don't think I could even handle the thought of it actually becoming a reality . I might start acting like a bigger A H than I already am

Would love to see it out there and continuing to be run. Yes, they do handle wonderfully, though the GTR has a rather different suspension setup. Still, I think the fundamental characteristics are there... yes, perhaps not quite as killer fast as the 911's you're used to, straight-line, but quite driveable, and generally felt to be quite reliable if you don't get too excited with the boost ****!
Sure, with a modern engine management system, it'd probably not be hard to make it much more durable at those higher boost levels; OTOH, you're then talking about taking a rare historical car and seriously changing things around... maybe not such an ugly thing, if you keep all the stock parts aside...

As you said with some modern updates to the motor it would be a very fun car to run . My plans are to step my son up gradually and have this be his first turbo car to really drive on track , a car we could drive together. It is owned by a buddy who is never going to do anything with it as he had lost interest years ago . I already ended up with one of his other cars and restored it and now that has been completed he wants me to do the same with this.

One question:
Are you open to adoption?
