My Porsche dealer had the car for months - the sent me a text saying they cannot get parts or fix.
here is the list
any thoughts ? See attached Before jumping into replacing big CIS parts, I suggested start by fixing the obvious vacuum leaks (intake boot and brake booster) and then recheck pressures? Parts are a challenge I’m told
On the fuel side, confirm system, control, and residual pressures with isolation (accumulator / pump check valve)? would that help decide whether the WUR or fuel distributor actually needs to be addressed?
The stiff clutch also feels like it might be a cable or hydraulic issue, so I’d like to rule that out before assuming anything major.
Yeah, never heard of anyone trying to use a dealer to fix an old 924!!
That said - their list of problems seems legit, pretty straightforward and as to be expected.
Clutch is cable, most likely issue is actually the pivot of the pedal under the dash needing lubrication; must be done before it tears the firewall. Uncomfortable but straightforward job.
Fix the vac leaks first, sure - but those won't affect the fuel pressure/control pressure issues.
You may wish to join us over on the 924 board (www.924board.org) - much more 2.0L support and knowledge over there...
There are good rebuild services available online for CIS parts... easy to find on an internet search. Both the fuel distributor and WUR are best sent out for that.
Intake boots are hard to come by but are out there. The booster could well be leaking and need replacement - not as easy to come by.
I feel your pain my 1977 924 took over two year to sort out by two independent shops the second shop operated by a 70s something owner who actually new these cars for years. What I have found the early CIS system has many fail points and it unique and complicated system with many parts. I stayed with it on my own fine tuning as I went not sure it was one of my best financial decisions but it is the car that puts a smile on my face with each and every drive just such a piece of Porsche history and to be honest a testimony to Porsche business approach all those years ago 😀
Stay with it and be patient the payoff was worth it to me and hopefully you too
