Down the rabbit hole
I am a long time member as you can see from my profile so I'm not new to Porsche, just to 931s. I recently purchased this car along with a 78 924 for interior parts. Got both of them for a song.
Hoping to find the same helpful experience on this side of Rennlist that I did on the 928 side and Cayenne side. Rennlist has made my Porsche owning and maintaining a piece of cake.
So here's the car. 1980 931. 89,000 miles. Someone thought it was going to be a race car. Gutted the interior so I have nothing really there. Has engine and transaxle. Few engine bits are missing. AC is gone (will come out of 78 donor car along with most of interior)
I figure this thing has to be so much less complex than either my Cayenne or 928 that repairing it can't be too bad. I even have two 931 hoods in the deal.
I guess I first have to continue disassembly of the interior, pull the entire powertrain and suspension and get it ready to paint. But, that will depend on what I hear here.
Suppose it is going to need a new wiring harness as the current one is missing parts/made of lamp cord. Where can I get a complete used 931 harness to use as an example to build a new one? I have crimper and pinning tools to make a harness. Figure I could put an old one on a sheet of plywood and fabricate a new one pinned out right next to it.
So. Please comment and give me advice on how to proceed. I can't see scraping the car. There aren't that many of these around, like 11,000 made. Figure it is worth saving.
