Default 89 951 vs. 04 911 Carrera

My freind's dad asked me if I wanted to wage $2,000 on a race today.
It's going to be at some track at Fontana, he told me it's a straight line.
My car verse his, 89 951 with performance chips, and 103k miles on the clock, verse his car, a stock 04 911 Carrera.
Who would win this race? I shift quick, 0-60 in about 4.9-5.0.
Should I go on with the wager?

I'm 90% sure it's a tiptronic.

Smoke him, take the 2 grand, and tell him to put the engine in the right place. just kidding
If you're quick at shifting it and it's a triptonic that should be not a problem.
Good Luck!
Vlad.

Learn this lesson now. If someone is willing to plunk down that kind of cash, politefully decline the offer. Lets try this with two cliches

1) Never ask a question you dont already know the answer to (never ask someone to race for money unless you are 99% positive you can win)

2) How good is he? A hell of a lot better than 5 minutes ago (older members might know what that is from). My point is hes car will magically get faster when dollars are involved.

Why not take him up on the offer for say 100 bucks (if you dont mind losing it). Then again I have known people with plenty of money to burn and if 2K is pocket change then give it a whirl.

Hmmm.... 3150 pounds, 315 horsepower, drag-friendly rear weight bias, 255mm minimum rear tires, possible X-50 package for 345 horsepower, lower gearing....owner willing to stake $2k against a car known to make extreme power.... I'd pass.

How far is the distance of the race? This will determine if you have a fighting chance. If the race distance covers more than 2 miles, pass on the offer. Unless you've done more than a chip, tiptronic or not, he'll smoke you in the long run.

I second matt h.

If I bet you 2 grand on a drag race no mater what your driving I'm real sure that you will be pealing me off 2 fat ones a 1/4 mile down the street.

He can't be that big of an idiot to just give you 2 grand.

$100 would make it fun let us know.

Cyrus,

You live so close to Pomona that you should get some practice at the dragstrip before actually racing for money. You should already know 951's are not the easiest cars to get off the line consistently quick. Just looking out for you bro...

2 grand!? he's def. got something under his hood. no way a guy would put 2k to lose it. i'd go for somewhere around $500 and see how that goes. take his *** from a rolling start and see how it goes!

OH YA VIDEO TAPE IT, AND POST IT ON RENNLIST!

Dude, if you have a cat, stock 4,000 pound flywheel, 26/8 and a vane meter, you better tell him he has to carry 3 passengers.

Yeah, I'd be carefull. I handed it to a 951 once while driving a boxster S. However it was stock and an 86'.

Oh no another Porsche drag race!
Save the clutches, it's nothing more than a Sachs conspiracy.
IMHO.

The X-50 is for the Turbo only, and is for 450 HP...the latest issue of Excellence has an ad for the "Carrera Power Kit", it is for 345 HP. I'm a nit picker so I caught that. It also says it's available for select 911 models, so his may or may not be eligible for it. As far as the race goes, if you can comfortably afford to lose 2k, what's the deal? Mount a camera in both cars when you do it.
