New Owner of 85.5 944 NA
Good Morning, folks.
Proud to say that I've finally taken the plunge and purchased a late 85 944. 2nd owner, has all records from original owner as well. Runs well. Looking to do a few things, but keep mostly original.
Quick question. Was looking at chips for the car, but there are options for 24 Pin and 28 Pin. Is there a way to tell what I need without taking the DME out first?

Congrats on your purchase, I also have a 1985.5 944. I believe, someone correct me if I am wrong, pre 1988 cars have 24 pin chips. 1985.5 and newer have plug in chips, whereas early 944's have chips that they were soldered in. The chip should be the only one you can pull out.

Yeah, come on Rohm. Who buys a Porsche then posts about it in a Porsche forum and doesn't include a pic? Duh.
We want details. Where did you find it? How many miles? What color? What options? What are your plans for it - casual cruising, daily driver, track days, autocross???

Correct about the early 944s having a DME which needs to have the unit pulled and revised to get an upgrade. By a specialist. No quick plug and play.
Correct also on the pre-88 cars from the second series intro ( hence the designation '85.2 as noted on your Owner's Manual cover ) thru to the '88 cars which got a bump in rating by revision of a compression ratio change. These later cars have the 28 pin as opposed to the 24 pin which your car should be. ( unless changed for some reason by a previous owner, but not likely ).
Best wishes with getting your 944. Hope you will make a few posts and show us your new pride and joy. There is a LOT of good information on these forum pages; enjoy your new car and enjoy this great forum !
