Default 924S vs. 944

Question for those in the know...

Is the 924S shell the same as the 944 Shell?

Looking to transfer the components from a 944S2 race car to a 924S shell (with widened carrera body work. 924S is a gutted race car so not worried about interior, dash, computers, etc.

Any problems as far as engine, torque tube, suspension etc bolting in?

Thanks,

Jim H

I don't know much... but as I understand it the 924S is much like an early 944, not just the interior but also the gas tank and transmission mount amongst other things.

I think early suspension mounts are better, aren't they?

Default Tank

If you want to run the later 21 gal tank Rasta on the 924.org site noted that the 924S chassis has the tapped holes for the later trans support cross bar in the chassis once you cut the early cross member out . You still need to weld in the strap mounts in the rear area and the 2 cones to support the the tank late tank if you take that route .

Depends on what you call "components". It should be a pretty straight forward swap. Things to consider are the fuel lines, rear torsion tube carrier/trailing arms, gas tank, airbox, and your front suspension setup.

You need to use the entire from suspension assembly from the S2 race car. Spindles, A-Arms, struts..., assuming you will get the wider fenders on the car. This will bolt right in.

The fuel lines on the 924S route under the driver, on the S2 they route passenger side wheel well. Either way works, but plan accordingly.

The fuel tanks, and all the chit with them are different. Depends what you want to keep, and how you approach it. Plan accordingly and have fun. ;-)

The dash electronics and wiring are totally different, but the same. The fuse box for the 924S is under the drivers dash, the 944 S2 is in the engine bay. I suggest using the wiring harness from the S2, along with the dash from the S2. Strip the 924S, and install all the S2 stuff. This will probably be your biggest time suck... it's not hard, just time consuming. How you approach it, and what systems you want to keep will greatly influence your frustration level with this part.

Replace your bearing and axles while you are doing it... The new car will be so much fun you will drive it hard and fast... having a bearing or axle give out while you sort the car will be a frustrating day at the track.

Have fun, be safe, and enjoy the awesome results.

Not sure what class you would be considered in as you would be going outside 944 NASA SPEC Rules. Once you cross those lines into the modified class who is your competition?

Thanks for everyone's input! Gets me going in the right direction.

Mostly interested in building a track car at this point. Racing class is a lower priority but a consideration.
