FWIR, there was a large debate over the use of the term 952 on this board several years ago. I guess not many of those guys are with us to get my twisted humor???

Oddjob summed it up well. The M44/52 stamped and the 47j or 47k indicates the year. It is the 10th letter of the VIN starting with "A" for 1980 and so forth not counting I, O, or other letters looking like a number. The crankshaft part number is also different though i don't know what the difference is. All 944 with 2.5 engine for early/late/turbo/non turbo all have the same crank part number except for the turbo s or the 89 turbo as far as I know.

Yea, I knew you were joking, but I head heard 952 being metioned a while ago. All I remember was it had soemthign to do with the UK.

IIRC, 952 was an internal code number for "special/non-standard" 951 parts, ie; cab specific parts, RHD specific parts and turbo S specific parts. There was never a car identified by the number 952, but I guess a RHD turbo S cabrio would be close (did they make any 951 cabs w/ RHD? Luis?)
