A sorry 89 8 valve
Picked up very far gone 89 to save it's one year only 2.7 from going to the crusher. Poor thing got drug out of the woods after sitting 7 years by a starry-eyed young man who had visions of a Porsche on the cheap. He drained the old gas, replaced the failed fuel and got it running. After buying the fuel pump he realized how expensive it was going to be to fix up his cheap Porsche. The windshield is broken, the dash crunchy toast, the leather seats split and worn, carpet faded, seat rails rusted, bad weather stripping, peeling paint, rust, dents, frozen hand brake, ABS light on and the list goes on and on. The wheels are just phone dials.
The good thing is the 2.7 fires right up and doesn't smoke or knock and the gearbox shifts flawlessly. Such a shame to see a fine car in this condition. It's hard to believe it's the same age as my S2, the difference being night and day. The 2.7 engine has the same block as the 3 liter S2 and the 2.7 head is used on 3 liter turbo conversions. I'm going to try and sell it whole. If that fails I'll pull a few good parts that will work on my S2 and do a quick and dirty (Sawzall and cutting torch) engine pull and send the rest to the crusher.

And the fuel pump on these isn't even really expensive or hard to replace.... unless the 89's are different?
To bad it's so far gone. Hate to lose one of the 2.7s.

Thanks Joe for dragging this one home....
If the drivetrain is good and the body not rotted into confetti, I wouldn't be hasty with the dismantle.
If it's only cosmetics which is the lacking element, and it has it's 'bones' in order, think back to what folks are currently doing to resurrect the dead in 356, 911, and 914.
Dragging crumbs out of the earth which resemble sieves. ( this may well be the very real future to the rarer water coolers such as these ).
Once crushed, they are no more ..... please do the right thing.

MGJ I'm sad to say I have seen much better examples scrapped by the local 944 recycler. This is a car where you have to listen to your head and not your heart. Paint work, body work, rust repair, new windshield and a whole new interior would put you underwater without even getting into the needy mechanicals A 944 racer in the next county over is picking it up in a couple of days. I'm glad because it was depressing every time I drove past it in my S2, I couldn't believe they were the same age. Winding up as a track car is an honorable way for a derelict car to go. Better to die like a warrior than slaughtered like a sheep.
