Default 944 vs. 96 Firebird Formula

What would win in a autocross a 86 944 atx or the Firebird Formula mtx? I realize that the 944 has an automatic but other then that. I know that 944's handle really well but what about the firebird.

Who is the better driver?

Street tires or R-tires.

If street tires which ones.

Hmm... Those are 3 big things that determine times at an autocross.

944. I think the 944 would win. Don't ask me why I think the 944 would be quicker.

A lot depends on the placement of the moon in the sky and what phase it is in. I would say that if it is a New Moon, the 944 has a chance. If it is a Full Moon, then things are in the Firebird's favor. If it is a Gibbus moon, then all bets are off.

A Harvest Moon would shift the probabability of success towards the driver who likes feed corn the best.

96 should have been a 6 speed manual, which may make a difference depending on how short it's geared. I had the 96 Z28 version. It stuck the corners pretty well. I'd say the 944 would win, only because the Camaro/Firebirds have such a terrible fade problem on the stock brakes. It would definitely minimize the benefit of the Firebird's extra torque. Upgrade the brakes, and it could be a different story.

Since we're discussing hypotheticals, anyone want to venture a guess as to who would win an autocross between KITT and the General Lee?

my matching shirt should say "mullet today porsche tomorrow"

my 93 Z28 is the same as a 96 TA. I have SLP springs, Lingenfelter sways and trailing arms, Hotchkis strut brace, revalved bilsteins, and 17" SLP (SS) rims.

a stock 944 is much better on the tight twisties, they would probably be equal on a twisty mountain road, but in an autocross the narrower, almost two feet shorter 944 would win.

Yeah, that cute little thing is Tom's daughter. I'd tread carefully on any comments. It is a darn fine picture IMHO.

I don't see why the 944 wouldn't win. Tom sums it up well. I've owned, basically (camaro instead), both cars and the 944 is definetly better in the tight corners. The firebird is only good for its huge amount of power and well, its power. Only way I could see it competing is with upgrade tires and some suspension. Also like someone else mentioned, they have terrible brake fade and I mean terrible!

I used to dread traffic mainly because of the brake fade. Overheating was my second concern, even in 110 degree heat.
