With the hypertech chip they PO put in the lower thermostat. I doubt it helps that much.
so thats brake fade, i thought it was just lousy brakes. but isnt just about everything lousy when you come from a set of brembos.

The firebird is only good for its huge amount of power and well, its power. Only way I could see it competing is with upgrade tires and some suspension. Also like someone else mentioned, they have terrible brake fade and I mean terrible!

Good to see you back in the fold, Penz. How are things?

Sorry, but with a good driver in each, the Firebird will win hands down. FStock is very fast class and with a good driver the the Firechickens are very fast, even though they are very heavy. I have no love for the Firebirds, only that I have seen many of them race, some with good drivers and some without. The good drivers are very very fast.

It also will depend greatly on the design of the course. If there are alot of fast open sections, the Firebird will have a great advantage. If it's all tight and twisty, the 944 will have the advantage.
Its interesting to watch at our autocrosses how close the 944 class is to say the 993/996 class. On tight courses, we're within .5 seconds. On the open courses we can be behind by as much as 3 seconds.

hows my old 944 treating you?
Its looking nice
I don't know what got me back into visiting this place. I saw a couple 944 Turbos on the net and I was hooked again and just have to have one! Just not in the finances right now, but hopefully that will change before next summer.

Glad to see that you have come back to your senses!
The 944 has been well. I have spent a little bit of money on upgrades since I bought it. All in all it has done very well, the result of the idea of buying a good example to start with.
Still in Northern Ohio?

maybe when the time comes and I purchase a 951, I can stop down and we can have a meet. Maybe get some other people together and stop.

Andrew,
from what im reading on the mullet board the FStock camaros have significant suspension upgrades. Stock for stock the 944 handles better on tight turns. My mullet has about $3000 in suspension mods (which includes 17" rims & rubber) and even with twice the horsepower it wouldnt keep up with my brothers 84 NA let alone my S2. Strano and the other drivers that dominate FStock are probably exceptional drivers that would do even better in a 944.
A few people on the mullet board that have been in 944s told me i couldnt compare the solid axle of the mullet to the IRS of the 944.
While my Z28 is a respectible handling car, the 944 is just plain better when it comes to handling at the extreme.
Trust me I've autocrossed my RX7 & S2, and have tested the Z28. It just wont do it.
At an autocross last year I lent my S2 to a very fast driver that arrived in the afternoon. without walking the course, on crappy street tires in cold weather and not caring, he knocked about nine seconds off my best time his first run. he gave me one pointer that knocked five seconds off my previous runs. In the end with two or three runs he was about three seconds off FTD in a car he never sat in before, on street tires against race cars, 996s etc. check out www.metronypca.org the autocross section and the march 2002 autocross. look in P9 and you will see the results. also look where the corvette came in - also driven by a fast driver in his own car and he walked the course.

KITT vs. the General Lee. If it's Luke Duke vs. Michael Knight, The General Lee wins. KITT driving himself, KITT wins.
The big question is this...KITT vs. KARR

KITT vs Gen. Lee
KITT would win hands down, duh!

What about KITT driven by the Duke boys vs the General Lee driven by their 'cousins'?
KARR vs. the trucks in Maximum Overdrive?
Vanishing Point Challenger vs. BULLITT Charger?

Let's throw Christine into the mix, while we're hypothesizing.
