any one that did this recently, please tell me where the cable comes through the firewall on an early 944. the people that replaced my motormounts broke my heater valve(im guessing) and im putting one back in after a year and a half. i cannot find where the cable comes out.and what about the attachment point of the black arm on the body of the valve
I replied to the other heater valve thread that you were in, but I see So Cal got ya going with where it comes out at, so as far as the attachment........
I couldn't get any good pics of cable coming thru the wall in the engine compartment (to dark, and under to much stuff, you'll love getting to this!). But......I did get these other pics from some extra parts "hanging around"
When you go to hook this valve up, route the cable, and position the valve such that there is as straight a shot into the valve lever as posible without putting undo pre-load on the cable/valve. Also set your inside temp lever all the way to the cold (valve closed ) position, and making sure the valve lever is closed, but it is not quite on that stop, then you can clip your cable down into position. If set properly, with the inside temp lever all the way to either side, the lever on the valve itself will be real close to but not on the stops at either extreme. This will make sure your not putting undo stress on the valve lever, thus not breaking the lever prematurely. If your reusing an old cable, and if it does not hold tight enough under the clip (which would not be a helpful thing), than you could just put a layer or two of electrical tape around the cable where it clips down at. HTH
This valve is in the fully closed (cold) position.
alright. awesome, i wasnt sure if my cable was broke when i saw just an s shape. i figured it should be an eye. i dont have the clip anymore, and that was very thorough and helpful information. so the arm doesnt attach anywhere? i guess the white movable arm is up, since that is the closed position. this also means the arrow on the base of the pipe points up. so, the only thing that keeps it in place is the hoses?
Yep, the hoses will hold it in position. The black arm is only for mounting the cable on it.Just make sure the valve is aligned with the cable as good as possible. The arrow is flow direction. Arrow points to your firewall/heater core. You say you don't have the clip anymore? PM me and I'll send ya one if ya don't have it. You did'nt get a clip when you got the valve? The white lever is on the upper side, on my car.
wow theres less room in there than i remember. i got the thing in, but its so cramped in there, i bet itll break again real quick. its 2:00 now, ill screw with it tomorrow
