Question New lower control arm... Extra hole..?

Failed ball joint... Replacing the control arm... The new arm (P/N 944-341-028-02) has an extra ear off the front, in line with the sway bar mount, with a mounting hole in it...

What's the hole for?

TIA

sounds like a 968 arm - the 968 has a plastic air deflector mounted to the control arm that directs cooling air to another "sugar scoop" duct mounted on the strut to direct cooling air to the brake disc

The ear on the control arm should fit a 10mm bolt and there is another tab closer to the ball join for the 2nd bolt.

Make sure you have the correct arm! Compare the new one to the old. That part number you have shows up as a 92-95 MY 968 Right Side control arm. Also the same PN for 87-79 944 cars

Randy_J - Thanks for the quick reply! There are two "unused" mounting holes... The ear, and a second one toward the ball joint end of the arm. Look to both be around 10mm... Fits with the duct concept...

The P/N cast into the original arm is 951.341.150.10
The P/N cast into the new arm is 944.341.150.02

My car is a 1990 944S2 (Non M030) mfgd in 1/90.

Aside from the ear, there are a number of subtle differences - webbing added around the perimeter, deeper shoulder around the sway bar mounting point, more metal around the ball joint. But... As best as I can measure (The old is still on the car and it's F'N cold out there now!) they are of the same length with the same distance between mounts.

According to Sunset Porsche, this is supposed to be a "Drop-in" part that supercedes the old one... I'm replacing the eccentric bolt and the rear castor mount at the same time. They ARE definitely different than the old ones. They are the ones that Porsche wants you to use if you go with 17" rims (See Tom Pultz's website http://www.944s2.com).

Anyone know if these are OK to use? Or am I S.O.L.?

Thanks again!

I remember reading something about that here: Kevin Gross's FAQ. Sounds like the correct updated part.

Thanks Josephsc. Kevin's site has it covered!

I wish I had one of those Part CDs... Life would be less stressful.

Anyone know where to get the Porsche tech bulletins that Kevin and Tom refer to? Are they online anywhere?

Again... Thanks again!
