Default metal flakes

I am overhauling my 951 to the crank. I find copper and iron flakes in the crevices of all the oil tracts.
Has anyone run into this before. Please no jokes. I am looking for experienced help.

Do you already have the crank out of it? How were the bearings?

If you have not made it that far yet, it sounds like you spun a bearing.. and possibly pretty badly. All you can do is take it apart to find the failed part.

I have the head of at the machinist to install new guides, flatten the deck, grind the valves, and new oil seals. The cam has heavy pitting on the negative aspect of the lobes , especially cylinders 3 and 4. (Replacing with a 254 deg. street grind anyway). No bearings cracked open yet. Pistons have some carbon buildup, but that was expected (found about 4 oz of oil in the bottom of the compressor end of the turbo). Cylinder walls appear pretty clear.

If you're overhauling it the machinist could tell you exactly where it came from. What problems lead to the rebuild?

Actually, the head was in pretty good shape, the guides (esp. exhaust) were a little loose, and the seals were hard and leaky....so off to the machine shop. I wanted to put in a new laminate solid metal head gasket anyway, and I wouldn't try to reinstall a head without surfacing and straightening first. I figured that the new gasket was pretty much a must do situation, with the boost controller I am installing.
