Default 944 Fronts Seats

We are looking to upgrade the seats in our early '85 944. We would like to know what others have done, that they are happy with. We have tan leather, but may end up with some vinyl or cloth. The stock seats are not very comfortable for my some times problematic back.
Thanks,
Jim

What type of stock seat do you have now?? I would recommend sport seats. Here is a shot of my interior.

if you have a bad back look for the 12 way seats from a 928. they bolt right in, and have an adjustable lumbar support. the sport seats offer more side support which wont help your back.

i think the 8 way seats from a 928 may also have more lumbar suppport than the 944 seats even without the adjustability feature.

the stock seats are made by recaro, which was taken over by lear. the 12 way seats in my new Aurora (and bonneville, seville, etc) use the same mechanism as the 928 seats. i dont know how the rails would fit, but if lumbar is whats needed it may be worth looking into seats from a recent gm wreck. they seats in the olds are the most comfortable of any car ive owned because of the lumbar adjustment.

I don't know what the stock seats are called, but they are leather, with no bolstering at all! Our car doesn't have a tilt steering wheel, do the sport seats leave enough leg room, they sure do look nice!

Hi I replaced the whole interior from an 87. They do bolt in but if the 85 is the same as the 83 you will have to remove the seat belt mechanisim from the late seat (this is attached right to the seat) and use the one attached to the body of the car(early car set up).

The late seat use six bolts to hold the seat to the body, the early only uses four. I don't think that four will hold you down if your in an accident if you keep the late seat belt set up.
