Default WTB: 1988 924S-SE

I've got a hankering for a 924S-SE to use as an E-Street autocross car for the last 2 years it will be legal for SCCA national competition.

If you have one (or know of one) in decent condition you might sell please let me know. Must be reasonably stock and without sunroof.

Thanks,

Ed

Those are very rare . Why not just use a 924S?

I could use a 1988 standard 924S to get the +10HP bump, but would have to convert it to M756 to get the weight decrease and the wider rear wheels. The conversion would have to be complete, a clone of the SE, except for comfort & convenience items, i.e. correct M030 suspension, correct driver's mirror and no passenger mirror, crank windows, manual rack, etc.

I think I could remove the a/c if it was there, since it was an option on all the cars. If it had the sunroof, that would be a bridge too far to remove, but I might could live with it as it was a legal add-back to the SE. Extra weight up high, however.

To make a long story short, the SE is only moderately competitive in E-Street against the NB Miata, I think. Anything else, not so much. Creating a clone seems like a very long, expensive process.

Tires are a problem either way on 15" wheels, you are limited in selection, you need to run the optional 16x7 wheel size and get 225 RE-71's under it. You don't need an SE for that as 16's were optional on all 924S's. Hunt an 88 924 and then add M030, you'll do alright. You still won't win at nationals.

I ran my 87 924S on 15" dials with 205/50/15 direzzas for a few seasons in the local street tire class (ES was still R-comp town). I did ok with konis and non M030, but it needed more tire. The reduced diameter helped me get moving a bit better, but it didn't make up for the lack of tire width. If i was doing it today? I'd take advantage of the +1" wheel diameter rule and try to run the lightest i can afford 17x7's all around with 235/245 all around, i think i would need M030 to clear that up front though.

Hi, did you have a corrected geo set up on the front wishbones and bum steer out of interest? 235-245mm wide tyres on a 175mm wide rim doesn't sound like a good avenue, was this because of lack of sticky tyre availability?

I didn't run that size, ive run 225's on 17x7 and thought i might get away with 235s, 45s would be pushing it.
