Thumbs up

Man, what kind of loans are you guys getting?
The ones I get barely cover the tuition costs :|

Anyway, good luck! Really cool project.
I love that this project is getting more and more popular
among the NA guys.

PS. If I were you, I'de do not just the belts but reseal the front of the engine as well as replace the rear main, and whatever other hard-to-get-at-otherwise things you can.

Thanks for all your insight and well wishes.

I'm keeping tabs on this thread because there are lots of good pieces of advice in here.

Schlag, I already paid tuition for this semester, and this was a loan that just got in for this semester.

Everyone, I'll be using a 951 clutch with a 951 bell-housing, the stock torque tube and the stock tranny. Maybe next year I'll get a 951 tranny.

Socal, I got everything, AFAIK. Morgan said he was sending me everything I needed, including the DME. I'll ask about the AFS but I'm sure he included it. He's a great guy to work with.

All we had time to do was unwrap it, take pictures, and jet because we had to get the trailer back to Greenville so we can tow Argento back to Raleigh on Saturday. Got to G-ville just after midnight and I had to work this AM! Just got off work.

I'm thinking that this project is going to be so fun. Has anyone here actually done this? I know several have had mechanics do it and what not. And I talked with mmmbeer (www.diateam.no/porsche) via email, he knows alot. I will no doubt be pestering him with questions.

Trevor, one thing about me -- I don't "do" alot of stuff to things I own, or buy alot of stuff, but when I do buy or upgrade, I try to do it right! When I'm done you need to fly out here and check it out.

He is out of town right now. How long has this been? Email me your name and info and the next time I'll talk to him, I'll pass it on.

As far as I know the flywheel for the 'S' models and the 968 have the same configuration for the single sensor. These are the cast in large "teeth". You can not use the 951 flywheel.

I remember back when NO BODY new anything about this. I asked if it was possible and the topic saw nothing but shrugs and uncertainty. Someone made a brief and obscure reference to Chris at Technodyne which conveniently happend to be 20 minutes from me. The rest shall we say, rests in the Dyno sheets. Good luck and congrats.

Why is everyone discussing the flywheen issue when he obviuosly has a 968 clutch assembly and bellhousing on the engine?

No problem what so ever!

I am sure you will have no problem with the conversion. It is mostly plug and play.

I recomend you use the 968 clutch/flywheel setup. The only downside is that you will have to get a 968 torque tube, other than that it will be bolt on. No flywheel sensor modifying. And best of all. The clutch is really easy to access/change on a 968 because of the two piece torque tube and the removable cover on the bellhousing. As oposed to the painful clutch job on the 944 where you have to remove the torque tube completely.

The bell housing for the 968 requires the torque tube from the 968 to work in another car. The drive shaft is a two piece design that lets you remove a coupler and drop the clutch assembly out through the large opening in the bottom of the bell housing. That's why the bell housing looks different in the pictures.

Me thinks the 968 clutch is also a multi piece unit -- a bit thicker than the 944S or 944S2 unit so the older drive shaft may not fit correctly. Again I'm going on what others have said about this type of transplant.
