I don't know about the shelf style, but the cubby style bolts into the existing mount points for the upper seat half and the rear seat belts.

The shelf looks like it attaches at the same spot as the lower outside seat belt anchors, so it shouldn't need drilling... I like that shelf approach a lot- simple, functional, ought to be relatively easy to fabricate too...

If I were to make one, I'd put the cubby doors on the top; it must be hard to access those doors if the front seats aren't pulled forward, but if you put them on the top, you can pop them open easily.
