Default 86 951 winter project 150k miler

Ill update when I do stuff. Been lucky with weather, warm enough to not freeze out in my barn.

Car needed a TT rebuild and cat was rattly. That started it all. Just going for nice driver car throughout.

I had the TT rebuilt by my vintage race shop Automotive Restorations in Stratford., CT. So if anyone nearby needs it done, they can zip in and out the new bearings quickly now that they did mine.

The cat was gutted. No emissions in CT.

Lots of powder coated heat shields and shiny suspension parts. Torsion bar end cap things are out being stripped and Cad plated now.

Cleaned the TT aluminum part. Marvel mystery oil really does work on removing aluminum oxidation. Pretty quick and smells nice.

I put new CV joints on the axles today. Cleaned the transmission. Cleaned the trailing arms. Painted the Torsion bar carrier. Put new rubber bushings and shift arm on transmission.

Going with new bushings all around. Some new soft fuel and brake lines where the old ones looked questionable. And a new e-brake cable as old one is rusty.

Finally got my torsion tube end things back from blasting and cad plating. Just slipped on new rubber bushings.

Still working on gearbox seals. Had to order some seal pullers as i was having no luck removing with normal tools and did not want to risk damaging anything.

Dad showed me a trick to install a seal without having to buy a huge socket you'll never use again.

Electric tape roll, just unwrap enough tape to make a perfect fit! Worked a charm. Tapped in with rubber mallet.

One of the next things on my to do list. Gotta go to Harbor Freight to get a transaxle jack first, since I'm also going to replace the clutch and RMS at the same time.

Even colder today.

Just got trans under car. Could not get trans coupler to slide on though.

Home made trans jack adapter.

The barn is from http://www.americancountrybarns.com/

i bought the kit. It was $16k or so delivered 4 years ago. Foundation was another $9k. I did all lights and electric panel.

It it was based off a stock barn they offer but I got it higher at 12ft to the rafters so I can get a lift someday. And also had it engineered so no center post needed.

Only the main mortise and tenon beams beams are are cut. Everything else is just linear stock. Needed to rent a construction forklift for the main beams. Me and two friends had main frame up in 3 days. 1 week later a hurricane came and it stayed up!

Then took me another 2 months to finish working weekends.

Building it was seriously fun.

PS- got trans coupler on by loosening bolts a touch and jiggling trans and pushing coupler forward at the same time.

Changed my mind and decided to add some nuts to torsion bars to enable reindexing in car.

Had my race shop shop do the welding as I do not own a welder or have that skill.
