In NJ they've had both 93 and 94 for as long as I can remember. I can't imagine they sell much 94 with the price difference as big as it is, usually around .50 more. Toluene is much cheaper.

I worked at a sunoco 3 years ago here in NJ and all I have to say is no one ever bought the 94. After working there 4 days a week for about a year I can only remember a hand full that actually bought 94 octane willingly (At sunoco there are only 2 grades, 87 and 94. When you select a grade it mixes the two automatically to create that octane level. sometimes we would run out of 87 and only had the 94 left thus people needed fuel and were forced to buy 94)

Do the 944s really require 94/93 octane? Even an older NA?
Octane is not just a "goodness" rating - it describes the combustion properties of the fuel. An engine built to run on 87 will not run as well on higher octane fuel, and certainly won't see any benefit from it.

Jessa is right, I believe the NA's are meant to run on 87, therefore you guys are basically wasting money, and possibly actually hurting your cars.

It was only a 3-5 cent diff from 93 to 94 so I always went for 94. They are banning the MTBE additive from gas now, not sure if this effects Sunoco's 94 grade.

who cares?! your 944 only needs 87! btw we have 93 here too, sunoco has 94, but i only use 87. for maximum performance use the lowest octane gas you can get away with with no knocking.
btw is that the car tom r. was looking at?
