Default Rear Koni shock question

I just purschased via Ebay a pair of supposedly "new" Koni 951 333 320 04 rear shocks. When I got them, they were clean enough but one of them in particular doesn't look new. I can completely compress that shock by hand, the other one looks newer and I can't compress it by hand as far. Anybody have a good test for rear shock absorbers? I want to be sure that these shocks are worthless before I go after the seller.

Regards,

Scott, short of putting them on a shock dyno, it's hard to say. Make sure both have a bump rubber installed as that will affect how far they'll compress

Jason,

Any idea where I might find a shock dyno? You were correct, the one shock was missing the bump rubber.

I need to buy a few things for my "new" '87 anyway, so this might be a good time to give you a call.

Thanks for the fast response.

Seems to me that one is not a good as the other. Can't really say if it is dead, but does seem more worn.

Are both shocks adjusted exactly the same when you are testing them by compressing them? I am assuming they are Koni adjustible shocks.

Beats me... I need to look at how to adjust them a bit more closely. Anyone know where I can find some directions on how to do so? (My apologies, I should search before asking).

If they are the ones with the plastic cover, slide it down and you will see a button, push it and twist it to the desired setting. I think mine have 3 adjustment points. Good luck

You do know these shocks have a life time warranty right?

If I remember correctly, my rear adjustable Konis were adjusted by removing the bump rubber, compressing the shocks completely, and rotating. If you don't compress them enough, the shock will rotate forever and do nothing for adjustment. Make sure by adjusting the shock all the way until it stops rotating and back again a certain number of turns.

Their website says that the warranty doesn't cover "Normal wear and tear" or shocks installed "as OE equipment on any vehicle" -- though, who knows, they may still honor your shocks.
